Are there any laptops that use a two pronged power cord that isn't grounded.I want to install a laptop at an office space that only has a two pronged outlet nearby.I'm thinking maybe an atom chromebook or at the very worst an arm based one.what would happen if I got one of those adapters at the hardware store and plugged a three pronged cord into a two pronged outlet. Overload, fire, explosion????

Not in danger of any of that, but you may notice a hum in your audio if not properly grounded (with some power supplies).

You can use an old style adapter to remove the ground plug. Just keep in mind your pc has many sensitive components that rely on the case to be shielded to remove static charges, one of them is a spinning disc.

Its not a smart idea.

The old style 2-to-3 prong adapters used to have a ground wire that you screwed into the center screw (that holds the plate on.) Maybe find one of those...

Or see if you can install a 3-prong outlet at the office?

That 3rd prong is primarily a safety ground. It literally is something that is attached to the ground down deep. There are many times on a dry winter day the past few months where if I wear my workout socks, walk across my carpet and touch my laptop it'll spark. That energy goes to the ground via that 3rd prong and nothing bad happens... hence the name.

If you didn't have it, all that energy will try to find another way through the path of least resistance. Most of the time it'll be you... if not it could fry something else.

In your office situation, I'd check your Ethernet connection. If the plug has a metal shield, that is often ground. Just hope that they did their job and is grounded all the way to the switch. Just don't have too many computers without a ground prong. Your network won't appreciate it.

I bought one of those at the hardware store, but is it safe for me to just screw it in and start plugging three pronged power cord into the outlet.is there also voltage issue

There are a lot. Many Skylake laptops are two pronged. My Surface Book has only two prongs. Just go to the store and take a look.

I would imagine that most tablets and arm things will be two pronged like cell phones.I was hoping you guys could show me something so I could just do the newegg thing and not have to go tho bestbuy.I'm looking for the fastest Intel possible with two pronged.are ulv laptops like that lenovo 83 that's posted in the deals forum for $249 two pronged?

I already mentioned the Surfacebook. <50w laptops don't need 3 prongs. Desktops will all use 3 prongs and should always be grounded since they use such higher wattage.

My Lenovo T60, and T510 both have 2 prongers for the A/C adapter. BTW, they make 3 prong to 2 prong adapters.
