Are there any known viruses where it will shut off your internet connection every five minutes?

My RR connection goes off almost every single five minutes for about a minute then it comes back on. Like I said before, the last time this was happening someone was stealing my cable (upstairs relatives). Anyhow, I was trying to print out a USPS label and almost got to the part where it charges my CC. I would have been FUBAR'd if it did not go through or if it did but I was not able to print it due to the fact that the cable line just went out.

Are there any recent or past viruses that are known to knock you offline every so many minutes consecutively?

I've not heard of any but it is very possible. Though, I don't see the point of it...just annoying

A friend of mine ran into this the other night... it was a virus but I can't remember which one.

Yeah I'm scanning my entire HDD now.

The last time this was happening it was someone who had split the cable line into their own house. They were not paying for any type of cable television! They stole our line! They were pissed as hell when they found out we called RR. RR came and told me the situation and I was shocked! I was like take that line off, we don't pay for their cable, this is ridiculous! So they took it off and all the way up until now it has been FINE. Now it's constantly dropping.

Wow, is it a new virus? Do you know if Norton has it under its definitions yet?

I had this problem in the past, but it was completely unrelated to viruses. My cable Internet gateway would keep bouncing up and down like a cheap whore. I had them purge my IP, got my gateway switched as a result, and all was well.

Honestly I'm not a network guru - it's the weak spot in my e-knowledge - but give it a try if all else fails.

I had something like that happen, except my bounce times were random. Might run 3 hours, might not last 1 minute. Of all things it ended up my cable line was running parallel to a extension cord. Seems the interference was causing my connectivity to bounce. Crazy.
