yeah, aluminum foil is a good one for making the room *feel* warmer. However, ideal would be a thin piece of styrofoam over the window, covered by a sheet of aluminum foil to reflect heat back.

Go buy a friggin caulk gun and a tube of caulk at Home Depot, they're not that expensive and it should work better than any of your "household solutions".

Used to use a product like this on some single pane windows in Germany that got ice on the inside in winter. They really worked well.
