ie, not a pda that fits in your palm.

I'm interested in getting one of those little clamshell machines with a keyboard that runs win ce or psion or whatever
are there any worth looking at?

I use my laptop (a thin, light thinkpad 570) a ton for keeping notes and everyday stuff, but it's just too big to take with me everywhere and whip out whenever I need it. there are the picturebooks and librettos (the newer ones) but they're out of my price range. I'm looking for something no more than $200

HPCs cost much more than PDAs unless you find a really old one. HP had some nice color models and NEC had greyscale and maybe color I think.

IBM made a nice subnotebook-sized Workpad Z50 (8" 640x480 screen, 2.x LBs), there's one on eBay now with a current bid of $58, though completed auctions were $85 - $180. Spend another $25 and get a 16-hour battery.

wow geez those things really are expensive. at those prices, I might as well sell my laptop and pool the money towards an x86 subnotebook for ~$400

My old IBM Thinkpad 240 was great if speed wasn't crucial -- 800x600 10" display, excellent keyboard, and a weight of about 3 lbs, only "gotcha" is the CD drive and floppy are external. Built in modem and USB but not ethernet.

These go for under $250 on eBay, though often without the CD or floppy.
