Well what games do you currently have?...I mean there are pretty good games from the past and the present that you might have not gotten yet.

He meant older games. Those are all brand new.

Here's a cut and paste from a post in a thread from a week or so ago:

RTS:
Warcraft 3 + expansion for an intro to real time strategy (tons of mods and a massive online multiplayer base for this game)
Rome: Total War
Majesty GOLD for a different take on it (cheap game)
Command and Conquer Generals for RTS set "today" (not fantasy, historical, etc)
Homeworld 1 and 2 (3D space RTS)
FPS:
Half Life 2 (comes with counterstrike for mp)
Call of Duty 1 + expansion (mp and sp)
Call of Duty 2 (mp and sp)
Unreal Tournament 2004 (make sure you get Red Orchestra mod if you like multiplayer fps)
Max Payne 1 and 2 (technically 3rd person shooter)
Doom 3 (if you like the dark)
TBS:
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 + expansions
Civilization 4 for a big time turn based experience
Galactic Civilizations + expansion
RPG:
Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2
Morrowind + expansions (epic)
Sacred + expansion (hack and slash if you haven't played Diablo 2)
Might and Magic 6, 7 and 8 for old school SP rpg goodness.

Others would be the GTA series (GTA3, GTA: vice city, GTA: san andreas), Freespace 2 (space sim), i know i'm forgetting a bunch.

Played all those? This is just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak.

Personally I'm looking forward to Oblivion (sequel to Morrowind, due March 2006) and the WoW expansion (TBA 2006).

Yes same here. But why would I buy a 900 dollar PC to play ONE game?

Where can you get a 900 dollar PC that'll play Elder Scrolls 4?

Anyway, I am also looking forward to Oblivion and Supreme Commander. Havent heard much about either one of those for some time.

Titan Quest?

STALKER?

It sounds like you're having a hard time justifying the cost of a new pc. Browse gaming sites like worthplaying, 1up, penny-arcade for a week or so for more incentives. If you're still struggling, give up :)

Shorty, a 900 pc can easily play all the latest games (6800gs or so) providing a monitor isn't needed. 7800gt is even feasible if you can salvage other parts like ram, drives, hdd, etc.

You're right. I forgot about my fav company, eMachines.
You can get a darn good A64 system for about 550 bucks. It includes a PCIe slot and I suppose most people could figure it out from there.
(Damn, I may just say "to heck" with building my own and do that.)

Am thinking about spending a crapload of money and getting a dual core 4800+ with a 7800GTX 512, but I dont feel that loose with my wallet yet.

Socket 754 and an AGP slot.
I got them when people believed the platform would last. Now I know better.

Which is funny because I usually skip a generation to make my money last longer.
I had a sweet little Socket A system and was planning on jumping over socket 754 entirely and get into socket 940.
In retrospect I made a good choice anyway.

EDIT: It just occured to me we went a little off topic.
My point is: Newer games like Doom3, HL2, and FEAR just arent running as smooth as I'd like. (Although I hate doom3 and HL2 actaully works OK with my Radeon.)
Sooner or later I'll need to move into a platform that has lots of potential.

"don't look that impressive"

Performance has nothing to do with impression and opinion of good graphics but your PC will still play it fine.

Dude, normally I dont crap on folks, (especially when they are trying to be helpful), but your system isnt complete.
It cost 950 bucks and still needs:
Case
Hard drive
Optical Drive
Mouse, Keyboard, Speakers
OS

I think the idea of buying a cheap eMachine and slapping in a video card is better for me.

I already have thouse from my previous PC.

And I dont really NEED the monitor, just would be nice to have a better quailty one. So thats -200 if i decide not to get it.

If your idea of building a gaming rig is buying an over priced crappy computer and putting a video card in it, why are you on this forum?

Really? I want to play whatever you are playing!

Compared to Doom 3 and Quake 4, obvlion isnt much of anything.

Compared to Q4 and D3, Oblivion will have more replay value in one sidequest than either of those games do combined
