Are there any external drive enclosures that are powered off USB?

Exactly what the title says; I looked a newegg and see plenty of usb enclosure for 2.5" drives but they all seem to come with a power cord. I know that firewire can powere up to 3.5" drives so y cant they do the same with USB? Or atleast supply a PS/2 cable for power as done with some firewire enclosures if u want to use a 6 pin to 4 pin cable.

Thanx in advance

Oh thanx I didn't see that one but the problem is I need one ASAP and for that one I would need to wait 2 weeks 🙁

Almost all of the 2.5" enclosures should be able to run off a powered USB port. The parasitic PS/2 power adaptors are for when you connect the drive to an unpowered port.

So... basically what you are saying is that the power adapters that are included are optional as not all of them come with PS/2 plugs most come with standard power blocks. Since we are already talking about enclosures are there any 3.5" ones that can be powered off USB I know you can do it with firewire but more computers come with USB.

Many of the 2.5" listed at newegg mention "bus powered" either on the description, the box in the "See it!" photo, or at the maker's website.

A powered USB port is supposed to provide 2.5W (500mA @ 5V). That's actually kind of cutting it close for many 2.5" drives' spinup requirements. No way will that power a 3.5" drive which will also expect a 12V line.

A powered firewire port is supposed to provide quite a bit more power (?10-15W).
