Wouldn't upconverting divx movies just show even more of the compression artifacts and limitations of the format?
 
Do the HD-DVD players play AVIs made with Divx or Xvid?
I'm looking at the Toshiba Model: HD-A20 but cannot find the information even on Toshiba's site,as I remember correctly all the HD players do Divx but I want this confirmed before I buy one.

Either way, the movie gets upconverted, either by your upconverting player or your TV. I think it just comes down to whether you believe a specialized player will do a better job of upconverting compared to your TV. Personally, I'm a skeptic and I have heard very mixed results.
 
It's the filters that help when upconverting DiVx files. It can definitely improve things (sometimes drastically).
