Not all N series are phones, the 800 and 810 being the exceptions.
As far as I know I think the EEE is about as small as you can get before making the size jump down to handhelds (and therefore sacrificing the physical keyboard). There are always Bluetooth keyboards, though. I have an N800 and ordered an iGo Stowaway Bluetooth keyboard for it. Not too pricey (about $40), and folds up to about the same size as the N800. Hasn't arrived yet so I can't give my opinion on it, but I suspect it will make typing on the N800 much more bearable.
There's always the full on-screen keyboard, but it is less than satisfying for me. Not only are the keys pretty small, but I don't like not having the tactile feedback you get with a keyboard.
My only complaint with the N800 would be that it's still kind of slow compared to other modern handhelds (for example I think the N800 runs at about 2/3 of the iPhone's max speed). I guess one could argue that it's fast enough, though. Handles most web content (even 2.0) fine, although I've found some flash-heavy sites that really bog it down.
