Are there any decent speakers out there that can be used via USB port?

I ask because my new Compaq X1000 laptop has the speaker jack right in the front of the computer... not very convenient, obviously.

Are there any good/really good/great speakers that work via USB?

I did a google search and I saw a bunch of those stylish Apple models so I'm feeling kind of hopeless....

Haven't seen too many speakers that run off USB But they do have a USB -> Stereo jack adapter. I use to have one with my MD player.

A friend runs some microsoft speakers off of usb and it sounds pretty good. don't know the model number though.

Altec Lansing made some a few years ago not sure if they still do. you may want to check these out
