Are there any decent freeware newsreader that download binaries?

I really like Newsleecher but the trial only works for 15 days so I can't use it any more.

Anyone know of a decent freeware newsreader that handles binaries?

Yea, I feel the same way. I've yet to find a newsreader such as newsleecher that will allow you to search across the newsgroup for certain files. My friends suggested newsbin but I dont like the interface. I may have to buy newsleecher just for the hell of it.
 
Grabit does and you are missing out if you arn't using it! I honestly expected more suggestions for it by now. But at least 1 other sane person mentioned it.
 
Why do you need searching built into the newsreader? Just use Grabit or newzbin.org + any newsreader that does filtering in a group.

Yeah, I love Grabit. I never see anyone talking about it, though.

Decoding? Or do you mean downloading? Not sure why you need a connection for decoding once you've d/l'ed the item.

You can move items to different "folders" in Xnews and have a connection going for each one (up to the limit your news server allows).

Let's say I subscribe to 4 groups. I can search within the 4 groups for a specific file, but let's say I dont know where to find these file(s). Within newsleecher, I can do a super search and it will scan ALL groups and tell me where the file(s) are located, but unless you pay for the full version, it will not show which group it is located in.
 
NewsReactor gets my vote. Its one of those free to try deals and lets you use it 30 times, but I discovered how to get around that and use it forever for free.

Never exit from the file menu. Once you open the program leave it running until turning off the computer, which will close the program down. Its not a resource hog so you shouldn't notice any performance hit. I leave it on when gaming and there's no problems at all. Allows for multiple threads and is easy to use. Its been my choice for the past year or so.

They did release a new version, so I don't know if the little trick works on the very latest one.

um newzbin search for the file, it will tell you all the groups where the file has been posted.

Seconded. I am not sure what you mean by you need a subscription to a news server before you can access them. That's not true. If you use .nzb's, no subscription is needed. I don't know of this limitation on any news readers.
