When I was young, I had neighborhood friends that told me that if I ever got invited to a certain kid's (who came from a different culture) house for dinner that it was considered polite to burp after a meal. They told me that it was a way of saying "I really like your food so I'm burping to make room to eat some more" or something like that.
I thought they were just kidding and setting me up to make a fool of myself. Luckily I was never invited to eat there. But as I've grown I've seen several more references to such a culture where burping is considered good (there was even a reference to it in the movie Shrek) so now I think it might be true.
Now, this has got me thinking... Is there any culture in the world where farting in public is considered okay?
