Are there any comprehensive books about D-Day?

I'm looking for a recommendation for a book about D-Day; the planning, the pre-op stuff, the reasoning behind it, the actual fighting, and the aftermath. I'm assuming there must be a ton, but what are a few REALLY good ones?

Thanks

Most biographies on the people that were involved in the actual planning will be decent; provide the insight.

Go watch Band of Brothers, then BS it from there. If you need sources, Alfred E. Neuman should be all you will need, as long as your teacher isn't a communist.

The Stephen Ambrose book linked above is very well written. Each facet of the invasion force is covered separately - ground forces, naval forces, airborne troops, air force, etc. The book was enough of a standout that I bought the hardback version.

Decision in Normandy is a good historical account of D Day (its preparation & aftermath too). Kind of tedious in places to read but has all of the nuts & bolts.

Currahee is by far my favorite first person combat memoir. It details the exploits of a member of the 101st airborne during D Day.

Germany was already defeated by June 1944. D-Day wasn't about stopping Germany...it was about stopping Russia.

I think you need to read the books suggested more than the op. I have no idea which fantasy books gave you that idea but, please read some non revisionist history.
