Are there any cheap upgrade options

I've got an Abit BX6-R2 motherboard (no support for 133FSB), P3 750, 512MB SDRAM and a Matrox G450 (dual display output).

My computer is just too slow to play any games with, DVD's stutter if both displays are enabled and I just experience general slowdowns if I've got too many things running at the same time.

I don't care too much about OC'ing or having top of the line parts. I would just like to have something that is has pretty good performance to price ratio.

I was leaning towards going with a Core2 Duo, but I'm pretty clueless about which motherboards, ram and video card I should be looking at.

I would take a look @ AnandTech's Midrange buyers guide as a good starting point, LINK, from there it might give you a budget, starting point, more or less.
The Core2 duo setup they list is a pretty decent setup, depends on features you want.
