a few years back i wanted to buy a mp3 player for my car that could play mp3s off dvds, but it didn't exist yet.

are there any now? if not, i will probably just get a regular cd mp3 player then.

edit:
after lots of searching i finally found one: JVC KD-DV5100
it even reads dual layer dvd-rs., that's 8.5 gigs of mp3s!
also has a front aux input to plug in another mp3 player or a satellite radio tuner (when i get one) and 1 aux input in the back too.

as for a good regular cd mp3 car receiver, it appears the DEH-P3700MP or DEH-P6700MP had the best price/features/rating ratio. but the JVC KD-DV5100 was just as good and almost the same price. sweet.

Yes - my 2005 Buick Terraza has a CD player that plays MP3s - I use that feature a lot. It also has a DVD player for movies in the back - I never use that, but it also can play CDs and MP3s.

I used to have the DEH-P6700MP until some jackass busted up my window and ripped it out of my dash.

Freakin bastards...

That JVC looks great. Id get a 7" LCD and mount it inside this pop-open compartment on my dash that would hold it perfectly and use the video out to watch DVD's on road trips.

That truly sucks, Traire. You need a junkyard dog to baby sit in your car.
