Are there any breakthroughs with LCD monitors?

So if I buy an LCD monitor today, how many years later will it become obsolete from the new products?

I have an LCD monitor with a 25 ms response time and I see monitors with 5 ms response time.

Are there any breakthroughs in the near future that are coming out?

If you're happy with your current monitor then who cares. I just bought a Samsung rated at 2ms response but the unit I got has video artifacts (pixels lagging/ghosting).

You betcha.

LED backlighting, OLED monitors (though that seems a bit farther away still), Display Port likely replacing DVI, & much more that i can't remember.

But really, i wouldn't wait, since there is always going to be stuff around the corner.

Get a good S-IPS/S-PVA/P-MVA 24"+ LCD w/ HDCP, & you'll be set for quite a while.
