Are there any book recommendation sites?

Something that lets you rate books you've read, and then uses machine learning/AI algorithms to suggest other books you are likely to like?

you might try amazon.com, i buy my books from there. there usually are reviews of the books and amazon will recommend other books based on your selection.

ATOT is filled with bookworms, tell us a few that you like and see what our collective wisdom can suggest. But yes, Amazon does a decent job.

Yep. Amazon is a great place for book reviews. ATOT is ATOT...you will get people flaming perfectly good books and recommending bad ones. Such is the internet.

By the way, read The Shack.

There was a flash app someone linked to from here before - it pulled a title you specify from Amazon, and then constructed a growing visual graph of Amazon's "similar titles" recommendations.

Well amazon is decent if you pick a single book no? It doesn't actually let you rate books, so the recommendations aren't that personalized. Netflix style recommendations are a lot more personalized, to where it's got better than a 50% chance of predicting what you'd like.

Here's some i liked, see if you can recommend some:

The Beach, Alex Garland
The Sun Also Rises / For Whom the Bell Tolls / Farewell to Arms / To have and Have Not, Hemmingway
Remains of the Day, Ishi
Siddhartha, Hesse
Choke, Palahniuk
Factotum, Bukowski
Hocus Pocus / Bluebeard / Slaughterhouse 5, Vonnegut
Catcher in the Rye, Salinger
Of Mice and Men, Steinbeck
Manchild in the Promised Land, Claude Brown
The Invisible Man, Ellison
American Psycho, Brett Eason Ellis

You have good taste.

Time to start reading some DeLillo (White Noise is required). The Body Artist, Libra, Mao II, etc.

also:

Kundera: The Unbearable Lightness of Being.
Murakami: The Windup Bird Chronicle; Kafka on the Shore. Both are excellent.
Nabokov: Lolita and most everything else.
Phillip Roth: just about anything.
Zadie Smith: White Teeth
Beckett: Molloy (my all-time favorite)

If you're in to good sci fi, then start reading lots of Phillip K Dick. it seems like the only good sci fi flicks that are released these days are based off of his work: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (Blade Runner), A Scanner Darkly

So I'm chopped liver now? You got what you wanted out of me and cast me aside like a used Kleenex?

Kleenex with lotion and Vicks are the best invention ever BTW. But here is a protip: if you ever run out of TP, don't substitute those guys. BAD DECISION.
