I'm a 3D animator and Programmer looking for a very broad Benchmark test including a combination of gaming video cards and hi-end graphics cards. I've been looking for a benchmark comparing the ATI's and nvidia's cards with the 3dlabs's and Matrox's for quite some time now but to no avail. I doubt anyone from the gaming community would like to see something like that but as a 3D animator I would like to see how these video cards compete with each other doing things perhaps which the developers didn't have in mind. One benchmark in particular I would like to see is the one below
Video Cards:
1. Wildcat 4
2. Wildcat VP 970
3. Ati Radeon 9700
4. Ati Rage XGL
5. Matrox Parhelia
Test:
Fastest renders on 3ds Max 5
Fastest renders on Softimage XSI
Fastest performance on 3dMark2003

all systems running on Athlon MPs 1900 or above. All systems running on 4 gigs of RAM and ATA100 hardrives
This is one of several configurations that would show off certain strengths and weaknesses.

Comparison of OpenGl cards

This is probably what you are looking for. I think it is safe to say the QaudroFX if you want the best performance. Quadro4 is you want the best price\performance ratio.

ATi cards are not upto snuff. Especially the R300 based cards. Wildcat 970 is about as fast as the R300 based FireGL cards. But the Quadro line pretty much dominates.

Bias has nothing to do with it. The simple fact is the R300 based FireGl is nothing special. Nvidias high end OpenGl cards are fast as hell.
This is known around the industry. When we bought 40 Engineering workstation last month from Dell. We bought the 340 precision. It came with a Quadro 4 card.

I dont think any of those sites have any professional lvl reviews of the FireGl and Quadro series of cards. Sorry....................

xbit-labs, digit-life, and Amazon Hardware (?) have pro 3D reviews.

no need to get all wound up. I know how good nvdia cards in 3dapps as I have used them (acad, 3dsmax & pro-e) and I have tried ati cards as well and never been impressed. I said the site is biased and I stand by that, bias does not change a test result it changes how the result is reported.

OT... But I love the way Tech Report graphically presents their benchmark results.
It's very easy to visually scan and get a sense of how a perticular card performs under different tests.

:D We Love You Tech Report! :D

Hardocp.com also often presents their benchmark graphs in such a fashion as well. I agree, it's the easiest way to visualize the numbers (when comparing cards) as the resolutions and FSAA and AF change.

Here's an example when they reviewed the Radeon 9600 Pro

Man when ATI releases the .13u process on their flagship card later this year it's gonna be a gaming screamer. The R350 with the .15u process already rocks!

And yes, NV has great hardware too (I own both). And we should all hope it stays that way.
