Are there any Android screencap apps that DON'T require root?

don't think so, i asked a similar question long ago and the only solution was to root, or install the Dev tools and do it through your computer

Android Commander for your pc. It will download and install ADB for you. It acts as a very nice GUI for ADB and has a screenshot option.

He should root so he could do a screen cap? Android should have this functionality built in, my Windows Mobile 6.1 phone did and it's like 5 years old.

Rooting by itself is quick and painless for almost every phone on the market. 10 minutes tops.

Installing custom ROMs and kernels would be where the dangers can show up.

No soup for you, and yes I think everyone should complain when Android's missing basic features that every other Mobile OS has. Screen capture isn't new or even high tech. Shit I could do it in DOS which 3 decades old. The OP can root his phone to do something basic, or he can hook it up to a PC and go threw the trouble of installing ADB and using his PC to take a screen shot of his phone. That sounds like a very efficient and awesome way to go about doing it.

How much happier would you be with a 2 tone CRT and a command line?

I'm guessing *GUESSING* that the process that allows for a screen capture could also allow for unauthorized use of the system. If that were true and Google allowed for that, most people would be screaming about how Google allowed that kind of thing.

The problem is that Google has to please the majority and focus on security. I have no problem with them choosing to err on the side of caution.

[quick jab]then why don't you still have those other Mobile OS's[/quick jab]

Yet you've always touted that iPhone was a great and it's always had less features than everyone.

A CLI phone? HELLS YES! Then I could write custom batch scripts, I'd fucking love a phone that had a CLI with no graphics but was still powerful enough for me to check email and send text messages and do some basic text only web surfing. Mobile PINE for email? SIGN ME UP!
That would *should* be the ultimate old school Geeks dream phone.

And I do have other mobile OS, 3 to be exact. Life would be dull with one 1 phone and 1 mobile OS to play with.
