Are there any 6800GT vs 9700 PRO benchmarks?

I'm upgrading from this:
Pentium 4 - 2.53 GHz
9700 PRO

I'm upgrading to this:
AMD Athlon64 3500
BFG 6800GT OC [PCI-Express]

I've seen benchmarks for the BFG 6800GT OC (AGP) but I can't seem to find any for the PCI-Express version, but I'm more interested in seeing how this card compares to the 9700 PRO. (what kind of upgrade in performance am I going to see?)

im sure you can find such a thing on tomshardware.com

they have vga charts comparing all graphics cards that are popular. so its basically GF2 and up etc jus head over there and have a dig

You will more than double the performance. 6800GT AGP and PCI-E perform the same.

Well there are many comparing to a 9800 Pro/XT and the 6800GT kills them. Just use that data and compare that against the relative performance difference between at 9700 and 9800.

For the most part, a 9700 is about 10% slower than 9800. Most 6800s are benched against 9800s. I would just use that as a guide.

They did not test a 9700PRo, but a 9700Pro runs almost identically (+- a couple percent) to the 256-bit 9800NP (the one not tagged as '128-bit' in their tests). Generally this is about 10% slower than a 9800Pro, and maybe 15-20% slower than a 9800XT. I would expect generally a ~100% improvement over it with a 6800GT.

What would be the point? The cards are not in the same league.

PCI-E offers no performance improvements over AGP, except in the rare event of HDTV encoding on the fly, and I think the 6800 is broken for that anyway.

They do WMV9 decode (although they may someday do acclerated encode as well; applications supporting this have been slow in coming out). This is what HD-DVD/Blu-Ray movies will use, so it will actually be quite useful in a year or two if you want to play videos on your PC.

I actually have a pair of threads you can use to get a pretty good idea of the improvement you'll see, both courtesy of BFG10K:

Anyway, you can see just from the last link that moving from a 9700P to a 6800U on a 3200+ yields huge IQ and nice framerate dividends. The fact that you're simultaneously upgrading your CPU should make for an even starker improvement. Basically, expect twice the performance.
