Are there any 28k modems that are compatible with WinXP and v.90?

I can't get a connection faster than 26kbs but I need a new modem. I am about to upgrade my Win98SE PC to WinXP Pro and was wondering if anyone knows if 28kbs external modems are compatible with WinXP Pro and the v.90 protocol?

Thanks...

If I'm not mistaken, v.90 is a non-issue if you don't connect over 33.6 because it has no effect without a "56K" connection.

XP should handle any serial modem. If linux can do it, surely XP can do it.

there are no XP drivers for USR 28.8k external modems, they don't work with the "standard" modem driver. i have no idea about other brands

I'm pretty sure you are right. V.90 was introduced to eliminate the X2 versus K56flex issue. Modems were able to connect at 28.8 long before that standard came out.

Didn't know that.... Thought standard was standard.... WindowsXP - redifining hardware compatibility :| (I'll bet it's an init string issue though. Serial modems are practically universal.)

v.90 is a 56k protocol. You do realize that a 56k modem is capable of working at 26k, right?

I have a Lucent Winmodem V.90/V.92 in XP. You can tell it via int strings what speed to connect at.
