Are there any 1600x1200 LCD's that display 800x600 without interpolating?

My rudimentary knowledge of LCD Makes me think that just having half the pixels wouldn't do the job. Because really, you can't make TWO pixels into the shape of one. You'd need 4 pixels to make a square. So find a resolution that is 1/4 that of another, and maybe that would work?

1600*1200 has 4x the pixles of 800*600

To convince yourself think of this. A 1600*1200 display has 800*2 pixels across the top and 1200*2 pixels down the side. Draw a picture if you have to but this adds to 4x 800*600 areas.

So I could desktop at 1600x1200 and then game at 800x600 without a degradation in quality if i needed a lower resolution?

It will never look as good as the native resolution. Even if it's an even multiple, you'll still end up with pixels that are 4 times bigger than at native, and it'll look a bit blocky. It'll be better looking than 800x600 on a 1024x768 screen, but still not anywhere near as good as native res.

1600*1200=1920000
800*600=480000
1920000/480000=192/48=4

*edit*
oh, wait, I read the thread wrong. oh well. *shrugs*
