Are there any ~12" laptops that are sort of adequate for gaming?

I want something portable, but would like to be able to at least play games relatively well.

Sure anything I can go buy now, or in the next couple of years. Say I wanted to play at 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 with decent options.

I'd prefer something with XP on it. I don't really like OS X, and all of my software is for windows too.

I wish laptops would evolve to the point of everything being modular, and them being completely upgradeable/buildable as desktops are.

the Sony S series is a 13" WXGA laptop that comes with Mobility Radeon9700 64mb. It's pretty damn expensive though, but plays most games very well.
My Dell 700m with 64mb of integrated graphics actually plays many games (including CoD, MoH, BF1942, XIII) pretty well at medium to low settings.

But the Sony unfortuneátely has an external CD drive and a not so great battery life. Think of it as a design concept and not as a practical laptop.

i have the 12 inch powerbook, with only a 32 meg chip, it has some struggles at Halo, but it's playable. PS OSX is much better than windows (besides games) you just need to get use to it.

<- on a windows computer now :-/

Whether it's better is arguable. The problem is lack of software and incompatabilities.

The VAIO S has an internal optical drive... it sits at the front left corner and opens toward the user.

Anyway, IIRC the Compaq nc4000 has a Radeon 9000 chip, also the Toshiba M200 tablet has a GF FX5200.

The problem is really that most laptop manufacturers don't focus on high-end video in small laptops at all. It's not that it's impossible (again, the Vaio S seems to be the fastest option), just that it's a very small segment of the market. Ironically, Apple has some of the best 3D performance in the 12"-or-smaller laptop segment.
