Are there Android music players that sort by Artist -> Song vs Artist -> Album?

For example, when I sort by Artist I want to see:

Artist A
Song 1
Song 2
Song 3

not

Artist A
Album X
Song 1
Song 2
Album Y
Song 3

I have installed a few, and am getting annoyed that nothing sorts how I would expect.

i would imagine you would have to remove the album field from the id tag as pretty much everything uses that information to sort

I've never seen anything like that, and can't think of a reason why you would want it shown like that, as it's not logical (i.e. songs are from an album, and albums are from an artist).

However, players are only looking at the ID3 tags, so one thing I can think of that will force the players to show it how you want it is to modify all the songs' tags to remove all of the album's information (or set it to one album of a specific artist), so whenever you sort by artists it will see the songs as one giant album containing songs from each artist. This is pretty destructive and extreme measures, though :)

That's how Winamp did it ten plus years, and it is what I am used to. It makes it very quick and easy to find what you are looking for. I don't want to go searching through album names.

I want this single list that is thousands of entries long:

Artist A: Song 1
Artist A: Song 2
Artist B: Song 1
Artist C: Song 1
Artist C: Song 2
Artist C: Song 3
Artist E: Song 1

Winamp did this ten plus years ago. Why can't any of the Android players do it?

Have you tried Winamp for Android? Maybe it still has the capability to sort songs this way?

I tried it, but it seems sort the same ways as everything else. Not quite how expect.

Bummer. I guess all the players are merely following the ID3 standard.

Anyway, I seem to remember that there's one music player for Android that will show you songs based on folders instead of tags, so maybe this will work for you. All you need to do is to put the songs from each artist under one folder (obviously flat, and don't create album sub-folders), and it will show them exactly like that.

I can't remember which player this is. I'd like to say MixZing but I'm not 100% sure.

I just found this. PlayerPro will let you sort an entire single song list by either artist or song title.

iPods have done it from day 1, imho it makes perfect sense, and it's crazy that Android doesn't do it by default. I'm on my iPod Classic right now looking at an artist and it's showing all their songs in a single list with zero album info.

Does the iPod Touch or iPhone do this?

just FYI you can change it in winamp it simply defaults to Artist - title. never understood why it strips the other stuff off

its in Preferences - titles - advanced title formatting

Apollo does what you're looking for. It's my favorite player.

kindly tell me how to edit the id3 tags in Apollo as I'm to unable find that option. it came as the default music app in the PAC ROM for Android and my phone is HTC Desire HD

thanks

My music player in my Android Kindle Fire HD 8.9 lets me do this by creating Playlists. I can arrange them any way I like.

When I go to an Artist in Play Music, it lets you select "All Songs" and it shows you all the artist's songs in a single, alphabetically ordered list...

AFAIK you can't - I edited mine before I put them on my phone using winamp.

You might be able to find a way to script your music collection into custom playlists by artist....then just reference the playlist in that order....might be quicker than editing all those tags.

As Red Storm said, Google Play Music does this. Go into your Library, then Artists, click on the Artist then click All Songs

Yep! That works for me!
