are there actually an AM2 mobos that work well with OCZ ddr2?

Hay,

I havent posted here in a long while, i mostly just browse everyday. I havent been in the loop for awhile with computers. Im still rolling with an ASUS A7V / 1.1ghz thunderbird.

I am in the process of building a new system with the AMD price cuts.

My plan was just to build a nice little system for gaming and what not.
Coming off a 1.1ghz tbird, 768SDRAM and a TI 4400 is a rather large leap.

Geforce 7900GT
300 gig sata
X2 4200 or 4600 ( haven't decided what cpu actually)
2gigs of the OCZ ram.

I came into posession of OCZ PC-6400 2GB (2x1024) EL Gold XTC Dual Channel Kit from a friend.

I'm not going to be using SLI, Im not going to overclock anything. I was looking for a board around the 80-100 dollar mark.

So my inquiry is, are there actually any AM2 mobos out there that will actually function with OCZ DDR2 with no problems. The thought of getting a mobo and having nothing but problems makes me wanna cry.

I have been reading reviews on newegg, googling, and reading here. It seems there are so many problems with AM2 mobos and ram in general, and even moreso with OCZ ram.

Your best bet might be to just email OCZ to see what MB these will work in.

I am in the same boat as you. I have to completly update my PC from scratch. I'm suprised it has lasted this long. I would guess around 5 years old.

I just hope in the next coming months we hear better news with compatibility with MBs, memory, and GCs.

OCZ tech support (e-mail or 800 number) is real good at helping you match memory to your motherboard. They have helped me on several occasions. I've got an inquiry in with them right now about their SLI ready DDR2 memory. Note the post I made today in this forum about using this memory with the ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe/Wireless Edition mobo. Antech has top marks for this mobo in the reviews of AM2 mobos and I would suggest you look at it over any other AM2 board right now (should find around $210 delivered).

As for the AMD 64 X2, with the price drop in the last day or two, I'd now go with the 4600+ (should find around $340), but at less than $270, the 4200+ is not bad if you need to save $70.

Question... Why not an Intel Core Duo 2 based system, they will offer much more performance for competitive prices... Just asking
