Are the Z560s really that good? - As a budget solution to the obvious "king"?

I think I'll go pick up a pair next friday in Kingston...

I'm just wondering if they are really THAT good. It just seems too good to be true.. I mean, they are really cheap. (220 + tax CDN, very good.. ) Everything i've read said they really are right up there with Klipsh 4.1 setups..

What do you guys thinks?
I hear there are some tweakable issues with mids, and even the bass.

Things I don't like.. lack of treble control knob on the tower, and i've heard the buttons feel "cheap".

I'm just curious, I'm pretty serious about getting them.. I just want to hear from the masses!

Edit: And my Santa Cruz can take full advantage of course? :)

my roommate bought them when they first came out...

they were okay... nice bass....

but they are NOT up there with Klipsch..

the main reason they are getting such good reviews is cause it has the MOST bang for the buck,..

300+ for klipsh is not cool..

while getting Z560s for 150+ VERY COOL....

I have some z560's and they sound great to my non-audiophile ears. I've heard a friend's Klipsch 5.1's and didnt think they were all that great, they seemed about on par with my z560's.

the only real complain I´v heard is the bass... there is too much of it. I also read a preview article on those speakers where the reviewer had a beta version of the speakers and he sent Logitech a note that they should allow people to set the bass lower than the lowest setting because even at the lowest setting there was too much of it.

but hey, I´d buy those speakers in a haertbeat if I wouldnt have to pay 200-300 dollars in shipping cost.

I have heard all of them in private homes (not just in stores)

Z560 < Klipsch 4.1 < Klipsch 5.1

If you want the best go for the klipsch.

I own a set of the Z560's, and I've heard the ProMedia's. The Z560's are every bit as good if not better.

I would agree that the Z560's have better SQ. The drivers they use in the sats are very good, and the amp is a Class A/B, which should sound a bit better than the Klipsch's Class D.

The ProMedias suck when it comes to playing music with a lot of bass. Sound is much too distorted when playing at high volume. Even though they might not be as good, when it comes to gaming, bass rules all. Get the Z560s!:)

Phuz,
It all comes down to the question "how much are you willing to spend?" if its somewhere in the range of the z560 then those are the speakers to buy without question. If you can afford the klipsch then go and listen to some store and listen to both of them and see if you think its worht it spending that extra money.

You know? I keep hearing about "buying the best" and yadda yadda, but I've never seen or heard anyone mention Studio Monitor Speakers being used for PCs. I can imagine a computer user grabbing a studio monitor pair for their PC, but never a musician buying a PC type speaker system for their work. I'd think people truly interested in "the best" would be interested in studio monitors, no?

I like the Klipsch 4.1 set more than the 5.1 set. The Logitechs are great too, the sound is not that far off from the klipsch, especially if you like a lot of bass, and even if you don't you can adjust it

unless you heard them in the same room with the sats placed in the exact same position, your opinion of hearing them in private homes is worth the same, if not less, than the opinion of someone who heard them in a store b/c every room has different accoustic properties and the slightest variation can make a world of difference. in a store, while the accoustic properties might not be all that great, they are held mostly constant having the 2 systems in a mostly identical setup (without varying furniture altering the accoustic patterns) so they both have the same handicap.

even after you keep all variables constant, it is all about personal preference, so the only way to know for sure is test out the speakers yourself, just like buying a car... take it for a test drive ;)

Thats exactly what it has come down to Czar!

I don't want to spend that much on the Promedias, and the Z560s are supposed to sound amazing for the money.

Both systems sound great I'm sure, but I can't spend like $550++ on some Promedias (CDN).

I'm selling my current 5disc system for $200, and getting these speakers for $260 (CDN)
I'm very happy.

This is the way I see it. You can either listen to hi-fi, or computer speakers. Obviously no matter how much people rave about the sound of a set of computer speakers, theyre only comparing them to other computer speakers. To compare even the 4.1 klipsch to a 4.1 set of paradigm speakers would be nonsense.

Both the z560 and the 4.1 are nowhere near a real set of speakers. But theyre pretty close to each other. So just buy the cheaper one. Sure some may argue that one sounds better than another, but thats only if youre really really listening. After those listening tests youll just forget about it, and theyll both sound pretty much the same.

So save the hundred bucks and get the z560s. They sound great, and considering the fact that noone can seem to agree whether the 4.1 or z560 is better, theyre pretty much around the same, aside from price.

If you want the absolute best speakers (for your comp of home-theater), buy them from them :). Of course, you must be ready to spend big bucks ;)

I had a set of Promedia v.2-400 that I got back in October '99. Last summer, the amp decided to die on me, and Klipsch won't even consider talking to you if your warranty is up. I was trying to see if I could pay to get them fixed or locate a Klipsch service center, and the only answer I was able to get was that I could buy a replacement sub/amp unit for $165 :|.
After a few months, I picked up the Logitech Z-560 for $114 from Dell, and they are every bit as good as the Klipsch in regards to sound quality, at a much better price. Of course, the fact they had a two warranty instead of Klipsch's one year made me feel better also.
