I found a toshiba 16 x dvd-rom/ 48x cdrom ( model DVD-TOSDM1502) for around $71.
Are the toshiba drives worth it?

They're considered by many to be the best!
I have it myself and it's great as a CD-ROM. Fast accesses, quiet, and detects the media fast. I haven't tried the DVD portion of the drive yet...

They're great. I have a Toshiba dual-DVD player (not for my comp.) and they're really great quality because their bandwidth is very large. Unlike many other brands, my Toshiba can read bandwidths of foreign DVDs (I just bought a copy of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon on DVD from China...thanks to my cuz).

Toshiba's are good drives. Toshiba is still going old-school with the tray. Unfortunately they don't make any SLOT drives like Pioneer, which are really nice. NO MORE FLIMSY TRAYS!!!!
