Are the retail AMD XP (Barton) HSF's reasonably quiet?

Dont know about the Bartons HS, but if it is anything like the older Athlon XPs HS fan than not really. It isnt overly loud, but it is louder than it needs to be for the cooling it provides. Sorry I can't give a complete answer.

Do these retail HSF's hold onto all 3 clips on both sides of the socket or just one on each side?

The retail amd heatsinks use 60mm fans, spin 3500+ rpm and drive you insane. Then again, depends what you definition of quiet is. Me? I'm a silent freak. Even the quietest Zalmans won't make me happy
