I would like to see the subsidies to farmers stop for one year to show them that capitalism works. The inefficient producers get weeded out and the strong ones go on to produce more with less input.

Ending the subsidies for farmers is NOT the same as "eliminat(ing) all farmers". It is about eliminating the farmers who have no clue and should not be in the business at all.

Well, that certainly would weed out some of those that don't have enough capital to ride for a year. I would prefer a more gradual approach though instead of an abrupt change. Lots of issue when you open this box.

How about we combine welfare recipients? Have all those collecting welfare earn it by working on those farms collecting welfare subsidies?;)

Sounds like a plan to me.:p There is nothing wrong with farm work. I did it, and I wasn't even raised on a farm. Yeah, it sucked getting up early and going to go scrape cowsh!t but hey, I earned the money I wasted as a teenager.

And the stench remains with you today! :p

I know what it's like...mucking out horse stalls can be just nasty. And stripping kale or tobacco, hoeing out the weeds, housing tobacco, etc. is not for the weak of back. ;)

Nothing wrong with earning your income!

Fixed as honesty has little to do with wage - nor does one's interpretation of "hard work". Scraping sh!t wasn't hard - it just stunk, especially a day or two after they switch silage bins.

I was really aiming things more at the East coast. Yeah Cali could do well on it's own most likely as far as food goes. As for the liberal part.....you're probably right. The only real exposure I have to Californians is the couple of months I spent there about 10 years ago. Seems like everyone I met was a liberal nut job. I mean waaaaaaay out there on the left. I work with a guy from Sacramento and he says the same think about the people he grew up with there. Yeah I was generalizing based on limited info. Just like the original OP was when he called everyone in the red states "deadbeat nascar dads"
LOL, surely you don't want me to stereotype all Oklahomans from the Okies I have met, especially the Fund a Mental Case whackjobs that are on my mothers side of the family;) Keep in mind that CA has 30 million residents and has counties bigger than many of the States in population and area. It's actually as diverse as the Eastern Seaboard.
True that.

I know I've asked this before....where is your family in Oklahoma located?

It is our estimation and strong belief that collectively and individually you grossly and completely overestimate your worth to the village, the state, the nation, and to the world community as a whole, and as it is our firmly held belief that having contributed virtually nothing of substance to that society which has indulgently suffered you so we posit that you will not now nor will you ever be missed. It is our firm intent and desire to be accommodating and more than fair concerning this matter therefore we will allow you to have first choice of 25 of our common States, with the non debateable nor negotiable caveat that those 25 you choose must adjoin each other. Save for Alaska & Hawaii of course, and we will even generously give you first choice between those two as well. Please consider your choices carefully, choose wisely, and please choose quickly, but please be certain that when you complete the process of choosing that the re-location begins immediately with all due haste and that it is thorough and permanent because those of us left behind which you have adjudged and found undeserving of your grace, benevolence, and superior intellect, have all a shared and rather burning desire to spend not one idle moment until we have completed construction upon a wall substantial in form and daunting in purpose from one end of our shared border to the other. We believe this formally permanent solution would be of great import and utmost benefit to both of our civilizations. Well, to ours anyway. Good-bye, good luck, have a good life. What kind of foreign relations are we going to have? What will be your capitol?

Are you going to bring back slavery? If you do, we may have to invade you and defeat you like we did in the Civil War. ;) I mean we can tolerate a lot of things but don't pull a Darfur or anything.

Wait...I thought you were talking about the blue states for a minute.

Wouldn't it defeat the purpose of having a divided America if you guys simply reinstalled another Republican President in order to overturn slavery and beat the South (again).

After all, it would be hard to classify that as a Democratic achievement since it was Lincoln (R) that was Commander in Chief at that time. Speaking of this?how much of the South was controlled by Democrats at that time?

:)

I'm sure your friends in Al Qaeda would be willing to oblige you.

Wow is ciba a member of al qaeda?

No, they are just incapable of answering my question and instead quote me out of context. If you read the actual quote, it says:

Does this statistic include military spending? This is important if you wish to discuss your statement. Of course, I would support leveling parts of Los Angeles or New York to put in a new USAF base if the metros want their tax dollars to be spent locally

I was referring to the government using right of eminent domain to put in a few extra runways in New York to appease you folks. Since you are apparently complaining the military spending isn't right in your backyard!

My point is that many military installations are in "red" states and as such constitute a significant amount of federal spending. Even though the facilities are in red states, their functions serve the nation as a whole. I have yet to see a response as to whether or not military spending is included in the statistic.
