Are the new AMD Athlon XP 2100+ CPUs multipler locked?

Well?

If I put one into my Epox KT333 motherboard which has PC2700 DDR installed, will I be able to run it at 266mhz FSB and overclock it without having to modify the chip or anything?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I haven't done this in a long time. *shrug*

Just thinking of a way to get a faster system on the cheap, NewEgg is selling this CPU for $93/shipped.

Oh, um... no...

I'm not really interesting in super duper mods and stuff, just seeing that my current 1600+ is kinda getting poky and with my new DDR motherboard and GeForce 4 video card, I figure maybe I need a faster CPU.

O/c that 1600. 🙂

haha we have hardware forums here 😉

Mulitpler locked does not affect the ability to change the FSB. In fact, the way you overclock a multiplier locked CPU is to increase the FSB. So go for it.

How?

What's the nickel version? Can I just change the FSB in the BIOS?

Will a 1600+ that normally runs on a 266mhz fsb run set to 333mhz bus? (are those the right numbers?)

Yeah, you can just set it to 166Mhz and see if it boots up. When did you buy the 1600??

I thought you could unlock CPUs these days?

The first Thunderbirds could be unlocked with a pencil or something?

/forgive my lack of knowledge here

Ok, I guess I can give that a try. My concern is that it remain stable. If it isn't stable, it means nothing. 😀

I bought the 1600+ when they were $108 from NewEgg, sometime last year, I guess maybe 9 months ago? First part of last year I think...

9 months ago eh?? Chances are, you won't get good results then. You might need higher voltages to o.c it. bah, just get the xp2100 and o/c it. 😀

Good to know...

What do I do with the current CPU, is there any demand for a 1600+, or is it kinda worthless?

45 bucks shipped tops over at FS/FT

You can just ebay it or keep it as a keychain. 🙂 Pretty much worthless. 😀 There is demand for later generations of the 1600 but your's is kinda old.

Hey, $45/shipped sounds reasonable...

Would be nice to get something for it, I still have a pair of 256MB PC133 SDRAM DIMMs from Crucial that I'm not using and have no use for.

They worth anything?

30-40 bucks. Not too sure on RAM prices. 😀

Tired...need sleep...good night. 😀

So Grasshopper finally comes over to the dark side? 😀

Alot of people are getting their Tbred Bs unlocked in all motherboards, so hopefully it should be unlocked in ur KT333.
