Are the new 16ms LCD's good enough for FPS gaming?

I would hope so, because I have a 25ms and its great. Only time I ever kind of noticed any ghosting was in Counter-Strike, and it was nominal. There's a transition period from CRTs, but you do get used to it.

Using the original gamers TFT here.
Hitachi CML174SXW/WB.
Excellent for game. I`ve yet to come accross any situation where a CRT has beaten it.

16ms is fine at least for 1024*768*32bpp. I have no problems with my Benq fp567s'.

Had pretty much decided on getting a 1760NX...

but watched Smallville over at my gf's place tonight . The dark scenes were especially dark.. and by dark, I mean DARK.. as in pitch black!! I remember several scenes of complete darkness. My gf said she saw them fine and asked if my eyes were ok.

One scene all I saw was half of Mr. Luthor's face. Now I tried upping the contrast and brightness but to no avail. Came home and loaded the same ep up on my 15" CRT and the colors were beaautiful. What gives? Surely you LCD owners watch movies as well, and surely this 1760NX or any other 17" LCD for that matter can handle an episode of Smallville! What am I overlooking? :brokenheart:

Absolutely, make sure it is 16ms and has a wide viewing angle and it will work perfectly. I know my VP171b does. :D Only ghosting I ever get on this is when Neo first meets the Architect in Reloaded for some reason, otherwise it's as smooth as silk.

I have the Hitachi CML175SXW/WB and I can say it's awesome for gaming.
No Ghosting whatsoever, replaced my Hitachi 19" Superscan with it and I'm glad I did. I have a Desk now

No man, I thought the 1760NX was pretty dark too. Once I saw it at the store, I quickly walked away from it.

But I'm satisfied with my Samsung 173T using digital playing games. (25ms)

I dont watch a lot of movies on my PC (that is what the TV is for), but I have watched a couple and have never noticed that issue (I dont have Smallville). I use the NEC NaviSet calibration program to set up color/brightness/contrast, which does a very nice job.

Yeah, perhaps this must be it. Thing is I tried looking at it straight on and still wasn't quite satisfied with the darkness. The colors looked quite off so I thought it might have been a setting issue...

I'll give it another look... but I may just setting for a nice 17" CRT and be done with it.

I like my NEC LCD7v for games, never had any problems with it. :) I can't remember whether or not its a 16ms or a 20ms panel tho . . .

Well, I went back over there tonight and loaded up the same episode. In WMP I found some nice settings called "Brightness" and "Contrast" :p Turned them up a bit, and it's sooooo much clearer ... I can actually tell what is happening so might have to re-watch it sometime. On the other hand, this means I have no reason not to fork out the extra $$ for a 1760NX now...
