are the mods on this forum too strict at times?

for e.g. the bday forum just now, are the mods getting like policemen? hand out the tickets but have no problems in speeding and runnign lights and stop signs?

i wonder how many minutes before this thread gets locked... so much for freedom of speech ;-)
 
Freedom of speech does not exist in any privately owned forum, which is something you need to learn. Anything you say can be removed or edited, you agreed to it in the Terms of Service when you signed up.

Also, the mods are just doing their job. They're here to "moderate" the forums, and some of the useless crap needs to be moderated too.
 
i agree the bday poll was too excessive... but i'm sure youv'e seen threads and been like "Why was THAT locked?"
 
No. I think they do a great job.

And if you want freedom of speech, go set up your forums.
 
They've ALWAYS been like this. Use to be a joke at the old AGN forums about all the locking that was done here.

dude, if i had the time to program it (easy stuff, cold fusion- my speciality), and had the bandwidth and storage capacity, i totally would... put in some cool custom features.
not saying that ATOT isn't cool, its definitely the best thing around...

but just like the ipod, things can always get better!!

personally i liked that birthday poll, wasn't a bad thread and wasn't harming anyone, but it got locked
 
sometimes the mods go a little too far and will lock a post they think is going to become out of control. Also, they hand out bans like their food stamps at times.

it was kinda sad that the guy had to put all that time into creating the poll...but yeah i guess the mods can do whatever they want and if it hogs bw...then i guess it's the right thing to do~
 
Yes. Anonymity + lack of accountability = potential for abuse. My only real complaint, however, is their silly insistence on making this forum safe for five-year-olds.
 
No, they are just comically inconsistent. Some threads seem to get locked for almost no reason, and some of the dumbest threads just keep going and going.

On average I'd say the moderation is just a tad lax.
