Are the Memorex 40X12x40x's really Lite-Ons?

Folks, I heard that the Memorex 40x12x40x CD-RWs are actually rebadged Lite-Ons that are capable of a firmware flash that will allow 48x performance. Is there any truth to this? Has anyone actually done this? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
