Are the computers at your workplace being affected by Blaster?

We are getting royally screwed at the moment where I work. We don't do automatic Windows updates nor do we have the latest service packs because we use a lot of software built by outside vendors who tell us not to install the updates until they have tested it with their software. They of course take forever to do that, so we are backlogged on updates big time. Adding to the problem is that the patch for blaster was supposed to only be run on SP 3 machines and above, and we do not have that on our image for the above reason. Just about all of our email servers, including the fail-over servers, are also down. It's been a rough day :(

Are you being affected?

We're running Enterprise Edition Norton AntiVirus and Enterprise Edition Windows server. Checks for updates and installs across the wire every 6 hours.

No infections to date.

By the end of the day July 31st we had all machines patched and had double checked firewall rules to make sure it couldn't get in anyway.

We've been fine.

My machine is still dead in the water. It's clean from the worm, but the payload was delivered...Cannot download anything.

Yeah, all the PC's here got hit. I was laughing my a$$ off. :D

They blocked the port on the firewall, then are going around all 2000 pc's and manually installing the patch. Bwahahahaha...

yes. 2 machines so far :) out of 100 or so tho... and only our department. looking through the block list, there are about 500ish machines infected campuswide (studnet and staff).

however, this is because we just updated xp, and did that patch a month ago..... and if school was in session, this would destroy us. heh. i wouldn't be surprised if they just didn't shut down the internet for students.

Just about everyone in my dorm has the worm, except me, since I patched like three weeks ago. Like last night, I was watching Family Guy, and this guy comes in and says "Is your computer working?" and I said "as far as I know" and he was like "yeah, well there's this worm, and everyone has it"...:D

Nope. My boss was totally prepared. We just sat back and watched the fun ensue. We did have to go out and fix other people's computers that didn't fall under out network. The sillyness that is Rutgers :p

Somewhat. One computer lab was hit back in mid July by tons of hacker activity - it was a lab which was ghosted everymorning to be clean and problem free and the ghosted image was not up to date on the virus and firewall protection (who wants to create a new ghost image every day). Every day the hacker problem was erased and a fresh (yet not up to date) image was back on the computers. However hackers would just come back every morning and redo the damage. Things were so bad on some computers that we couldn't attempt to download a Windows patch if we wanted to to get it on the ghosted image. Went right around the firewall and virus software. But that got us to update everything on all the functional computers and so those are just fine.

That same computer lab is now completely disabled. We cannot get in to ghost an image or format them. It'll have to be hard drive removal and manual formats in operating computers.

yes, our person in charge of applying windows updates was asleep at the wheel when the fix was released a couple of weeks ago.

My company patched the servers 2 weeks ago but decided not to touch the desktops. What a great idea. Now we have a huge outbreak on all the desktops.
