Are the BF:1942 expansions worth it?

$20 for a few more maps and weapons seems kinda pricey...


Are they worth getting, as in, will I eventually never be able to play since everyone is running expansion servers, or, is base game and maybe the DC mod all I really need?

I personally owned RTR for about 3 weeks before I ever played one of the maps in the game. I sold my BF42 copy, but I am thinking of picking it up again for 20 bucks. i plan on probably playing dc. i won't get the expansions.

RTR is really not worth it. I never play those maps, anyway. Secret weapons adds some nice maps, but I find the weapons a little bit outrageous for a WWII game.

I've taken to playing DC, and being that its free, its definitely worth it. No new maps, but some great weapons and modern technology.

I liked the maps in RTR. The last one is my fav. (can't remember the name right now)

When RTR came out, it was a nice change from the original maps.
I played it a fair amount for a month or so.
Now there aren't really that many servers running it.
When I rebuilt my system a couple months ago, I didn't even bother installing RTR because I had no desire to play it.
If you can find it for like $10 it's probably worth picking up just for a change of pace for awhile. There are some decent maps in it.

Yes, DC has new maps.
I think they are now up to 7 or 8 custom DC maps.

But yeah, I'd say you will stay entertained for a long time with just the original BF and DC.
The other thing is that the Forgotten Hope mod is coming out in a week or two.
It retains the same ww2 theme, but adds a ton of new maps and vehicles.
Obviously we don't know how good it will be, but it looks more like a really good expansion than a mod.
