Are TFT monitors healthier for the eyes?

My current monitor is some LG E700B and it is killing my eyes.

I am using the computer for long hours and I would like to know if TFT makes a big difference for the eyes.

So if any of you used a CRT monitor for long periods of times and then switched to TFT, please tell me if it helped.

Thank you.

Most people will tell you that they are. I previously owned a 17" CRT and then a 22" CRT, before my current 20" LCD...I never got eye strain or anything with the CRT's (even using the computer hours at a time as I so often do), so for me there was nothing to improve upon (except sharpness and weight :p).

Healthier yes, but if you watch alot of TV it might not make much difference. I don't like TV programming since it has become extremely politicized and rarely watch it. When I do see a TV, the screen looks bad.

I, like synthdude, never got eyestrain from CRTs. Doesn't make a difference for me. Eyestrain does not equate to permanent eye damage though. It just means your eyes are tired usually from not blinking.

Yes - in general there are two main reasons for LCDs being "healthier" for the eyes.

1. They do not flicker - no refresh for staring pixels.

2. They do not emit radiation (CRTs do.)

And they are healthier for the utility bill in that they use less electricity and produce much less heat. That makes A/C needs less.

The main drawback is for gamers who must have LCDs with super fast response times to avoid movement ghosts in certain games. But - for those whose computers are primarily working tools, LCDs are better.
