Are tablets good for anyting? Why not just get a super big screen phone?

The only people that say there's no need for a tablet are...wait for it...people that don't own a tablet!

If you're a smartphone junkie then you will very quickly become a tablet junkie. If you find yourself staring at your smartphone without any idea of what to do with it, well, you won't have much use for a tablet either.

we bought an ipad 1, and brought it back, there was simply nothing I couldn't do with that that either ubiquitous PC's (we (wife and I) each have a desktop, MBP, + HTPC + servers, etc) and iPhones. There is an awful lot of overlap esp considering we both use the MBP and iPhones for work.
The big issue was we couldn't easily bring it anywhere (no 3g version), it was bulky and were constantly paranoid of busting it. Also couldn't find a killer app, and always grabbing the iphone or MBP first.

This was/is my worry. I currently have a MBA (which I'm looking to sell and thinking about replacing with MBP) and an Incredible 2 (had a dumb phone prior to this) and I figured those two would be perfectly fine for my needs. I stopped thinking about a tablet, specifically the Nook Color, but what do ya know, gf surprised me with one for my birthday . Now I wonder how much it would overlap once I sell the MBA and replace with a MBP or another laptop, and if one of those two would not get used as much.

Just got my Transformer a couple days ago. I can definately see my laptop being left at home. It is easier to carry, lighter, has better battery life, and does everything I need it to do while on the road(email, web browsing, movies, mp3's). It is the perfect size for watching movies while on a plane or in the car.

I am honestly looking forward to Win8 on a Tegra 4 device at the end of 2012. I think that is when Tablets will really take off.

I think you're describing the future of the evolution of the home desktop to desktablet.
