Are some RC5 blocks "hotter" than others?

I've noticed that my work laptop runs hotter at time than others. I basically use it to browse the web and crack RC5. Every so often the bottom gets so hot it become painful to touch. At other times it runs so cool that I have to check to make sure the cruncher is working. Anyone know if specific block sizes or something would cause a PC to run hotter or cooler?

The only thing I can think of is additional activity like HD's, and CD-roms running a lot. The CPU should attain a constant (probably high) temperature....

I assume that you're talking about given equal amounts of time that it's been on....because it'll always be cooler at startup ;)

There is no difference between blocks. Same algorithm for all.

The only difference that might affect your laptop is your local power saving settings or possibly a fan/thermostat problem.

I have noticed that my wife's Dell Latitude will run hot until the thermostat turns on the fan, then it cools way down. The temperature band between ON and OFF for the internal fan is too large (I think), so it causes unecessary temperature swings.

Hmm.... most strange. There is no more HDD activity than usual. The fan is always on when there is A/C power. I never run it on battery so "Stop Cracking While On Battery" is not an issue. I guess there is something else at play here.

its probably ventilation getting to the machine, if good air movement gets in there it should keep it from getting too hot.
