do the quality of firewire cards vary from card to card? i have a dv cam, and when i capture, there are some jaggedy lines across the screen, and the export to tape doesnt even work right. i know nothing is wrong with the camera because i can export to tape with a friend's computer.

should i buy a new firewire card?

Is this one of those critical thinking posts?? :p

Firewire video transfer is digital, so there isn't really a difference in fidelity of the video image, either the transfer works or it doesn't. If you are seeing any sort of corruption or distortion in the video stream, I suspect that your card simply isn't functioning properly.

What kind of Firewire card are you using, and have you checked for the latest drivers...?

Certain firewire chipsets are better than others... for example I've always had trouble with VIA-based Firewire cards. Texas Instruments cards have worked fine for me though. Good luck...
