are soda bottle caps universal?

I don't know, but I DO know that 2 liter bottles aren't all the same size... The outer diameter varies by as much as 1mm from one brand to another (but each brand's bottles do not vary by anywhere near as much) If you cut the bottles in half, you'll find that some brands will fit snuggly into the other brand's bottle.
 
well i found someone from the UK who said soda bottles fit nicely on a beer bottle, i'm guessing beer bottles are universal. i could get a 2 liter cap onto a beer bottle, so i guess it'll work.
