Are Socket 940/754 Heatsinks Interchangeable

To all,

in my saga of replacing my old home lab machines, I've decided to jump straight to 64bit using socket 754 CPUs (cost). But I've searched high and low for 1U/Low Profile heatsinks/fans and I can't seem to find any. I've found socket A, 940, Etc.. but not one marked with socket 754. Am I missing something or are the socket 940 mount interchangeable with socket 754?

Thanks in advance,
Durnik

Bump

Anyone have any idea, or a lead on where I can find a 1U socket 754 heatsink/fan?

Thanks,

Yep, don't see why they wouldn't work. Socket 939, 940, and 754 all use the same retention mechanism.

MDE,

thanks for the reply. What was confusing me was that socket 754 seems to use a phenolic 'retention' bracket and all the 939/940 heatsinks I've seen look like the bolt through the board into a backer plate. So am I right in assuming they also have the locking/lug mechanism to use the retention bracket, or do I just remove the bracket and use the holes it's currently using?

My thanks,

You should be able to remove the bracket and screw it right onto the motherboard.
