Are soccer players really in that much pain when they go down?

Sometimes it just looks like they got tapped and they go down clutching their legs in pain, rolling on the ground for a few minutes. I've never got hurt playing soccer, but then we weren't playing that hard.

acting? or for real?

yesterday, a german flopped. they brought the stretcher out. he sat up. then got up and walked off. 2 minutes later, he scored the final goal of the match.

soccer players are worse than john stockton.

It's a lot of flop. And it stops play for a bit, a chance for a breather.

Yep, in soccer the referee has complete control over the clock and stoppage of the game.
If they see an injured or down player on the field they are suposed to stop play to allow the player to get up and leave the field.

If they are Argies, Eyeties or Mexicans then no, they are just acting because they are a bunch of wankers.

Bill Laimbeer makes Stockton and Nash look like amateurs.

I wish they'd give out more yellow cards for faking it. Technically taking a dive is not allowed but they ususlly don't call it.

Soccer? What is that?

Real men play American football.

Yes, because you aren't a man unless you are roided up and covered in armor...

Are we talking about American Football or Barry Bonds?

bunch of fvcking pussies acting to get the free shots. Watch rugby: you can see how much of a beating real men can teake, but not cry about it and continue fighting.

no, soccer players fake it so much its ridiculous.. and most people are a bunch of cheating whores - grabbing shirts, putting their arms in front of you to get the advantage

Usually is a bit of both.

QFT.

They overact to get the penalty on the other player. Regardless, I'm sure there's various degrees of hurt. If they're not taken off the pitch after falling, then that tells you the "injury" is overdone.

Today, for instance, an Argentinian player kicked an Ivory Coast player who overacted. As you saw him move when no penalty was given, he "recovered" pretty fast.

It seems that at the higher levels there is a lot of acting. But as someone who played soccer competitively through high school and club teams through college, you can get hurt quite badly. Worst injury I know of is someone who shattered his jaw in 4 places by getting kicked in the face and he had to eat through a straw because they wired his jaw shut.

Right, imagine this:
You manage to walk into a door or someone hits you with something on the arm/leg.
Initially you are in pain.
Then, after a short while (maybe a minute of two) the initial pain goes away and you feel alright again.

Now, imagine you're playing football and you get clattered in the leg by someone, and you're running.
You fall over, you're in a bit of pain.
Then, after a minute or so the pain goes away and you can continue on.

Of course, I don't know about everyone, but when I get hit in some way, it hurts quite a lot to start with, and then kind of goes away and I feel OK again shortly thereafter. Just like what appears to happen to football players, they go down and then magically feel OK a short while later.
Strange, no?
