Are slot loading pioneers still really loud?

I want one, but I want a quiet drive .. are the two (quiet and pioneer slot) still not getting along?
 
My friends is rather loud, but I dont own one myself. I liked slot loading when I was looking for a DVD drive, but went with tray Liteon instead due to the faster DAE.
 
I was worried too, but the new ones would appear to be much more quiet. The quietest high speed cdrom drive I tried was the LG 52X, so I assume their DVD drives might be similar in noise abatement.

Still, the Pioneer DVD is not intrusive to me, and I've returned optical drives for being too noisy in the past. Loads the cd directory faster than anything else out there too, apparently.
