I wwas looking for something completely different when I stumbled across this tread, and I will try to help, cos I live in Serbias north province, called Vojvodina, and I was using this forum to get some info on many other thing, and this one has made me to register.
In advance apologizes for my bad grammar or spelling.
Well as I am Serb, by origin, I come from mixed parents (mother is Slovenian and father is Serbian) to try to understand any of the Balkan nation is well to hard, there is too much history stringed around, a lot of hate and love all together.
To elaborate, you can call Serbs nationalist, drunks, and many other thing but racist well that is too much. In my country, and in my province there is 24 registered nations, three major religious communities (Christian Orthodox, Catholic, and Muslim) as there are many other like Lutherans,Protestants, Buddhist etc.
The better part of the North Africa countries has sent there students in our college, so it is not strange to us to have people of any color on streets, walking free, without being afraid of the attack. Is there people with racial issues? Yes of course there are, but we talk on minority of idiots. I believe that every country has does.
To understand a part of our history you have to go way back to the Byzantine empire to get hold of much things that hold a large weight. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byzantine_Empire
The reason why many of my countryman have an issue with US, well is not the people, its the ignorance, the way media tells you to believe and the acceptance of "facts" stated. That is what make me angry. Like does that comes from ichy.
I am sorry if you had bad experience in dealing with my people but we are not all like that. And to pull things from last war without all facts, is like judge people of US that they are all Imperialist cos your government is paying rebellions and waging III WW.
I cant, cos I talk to the people, and I have learned that many of the US citizens are just ignorant, and good part of them just dumb.
