Outpost is having a killer deal on a Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 80GB 7200RPM HD for $130 after MIR, but how is the quality? I'm looking at the 60GB Maxtor 7200RPM for $130 after MIR at CompUSA, but 20 more gigs would be nice, but only if it's going to last. A 3-year warranty is worthless if your data goes poof!

all brand have equal chance of failing... i have a lot of fail quantums but i still use them... now i'm sitting on the barracuda 180gb scsi's, it's got 5 year warranty and mtbf of like 1,000,000 hours or something.. something really high.. but i use them in a raid 5 so i won't worry as much

Storage Review gave it a good write-up, but the forum posters mention heat as an issue. This will be going in the bottom slot of an SX1030 with the 3 HDs spaces above it filled with Maxtors. I have a fan in the HD bracket, but the IDE cables keep the air from flowing thru very well. Anyone have problems with heating and cooling?

When I think of Seagate, I think of SCSI, and I think powerhouse.

I've also heard the Seagate IV's are super quiet.
