Are Seagate HDs any good?

Outpost is having a killer deal on a Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 80GB 7200RPM HD for $130 after MIR, but how is the quality? I'm looking at the 60GB Maxtor 7200RPM for $130 after MIR at CompUSA, but 20 more gigs would be nice, but only if it's going to last. A 3-year warranty is worthless if your data goes poof!

all brand have equal chance of failing... i have a lot of fail quantums but i still use them... now i'm sitting on the barracuda 180gb scsi's, it's got 5 year warranty and mtbf of like 1,000,000 hours or something.. something really high.. but i use them in a raid 5 so i won't worry as much

Seagates are damn quite and pretty reliable...

Some prefer to call them the IBM replacement in terms of quiteness, speed, and stability.

Storage Review gave it a good write-up, but the forum posters mention heat as an issue. This will be going in the bottom slot of an SX1030 with the 3 HDs spaces above it filled with Maxtors. I have a fan in the HD bracket, but the IDE cables keep the air from flowing thru very well. Anyone have problems with heating and cooling?

Seagate cheeta 15000. Once you make the switch theres no going back...

Its kinda like going from a 56k modem to t1.

I have a barracuda 30GB 7200rpm for almost three years and it's still working like a charm, quite too. Go for it, i'm buying one for my girlfriend. thanks for the link.
