when you see replacement screens being sold for phones like droid razr are they actual motorola parts or are they lower quality parts assembled by some third party company? theyre pretty inexpensive but at the same time i would think the market for things like that wouldnt be large enough to make it worth it for a third party company to make something like that

Although it's a bit hard to tell, I think most of the time they are using third party replacements instead of real OEM parts.

Based on my Touchpad replacement, definitely third party.

EDIT: As for how I can tell, you can see the digitizer pattern on the Touchpad for some reason. They are different on both, with the replacement being more noticeable. And the replacement has a very obvious defect in the glass. My guess is after manufacturing ended, the company made a slight change, cut some corners, churned out a bunch more, and pushed them out the back door.

My experience with iPhone screens is that if you spend < $40 or so, you're going to get an iPod touch screen, which wasn't IPS. Spend more than $80 of so and you usually get one that is an exact replacement, but might have some flaws, like a dead pixel or two. I usually have to spend more than $120 to get an exact 4 or 4S replacement screen.

Mostly 3rd party.
Razers replacements(and others) are much more expensive because the demands aren't there.
iPhones parts are easily the cheapest.
There is a huge market for iPhone parts.
There was an article that American's spent $6 billions on fixing their iPhones.

so are these third party screens good quality. if i got one would it be visibly lower quality? would it be less bright, have worse contrast, be less sharp. im trying to decide if i should just pay motorola to fix my phone for $120 or whatever they charge.
