Are rounded cables worth it?

I've been thinking about getting some of those pre-rounded cables that are floating around. Are they worth the money? Should I get a noticable case temp drop from using them? My case runs about 27-29C right now, with room temp around 20-22C. I have 3 IDE cables right now (6 devices). Also, some of these cables would need to reach the very top of an Antec SX1040 case...any problems with length? I've also heard some reports of data corruption with these. Are those unfounded claims, or has anyone had trouble with that? That's something I can not allow to happen. Thanks.

If you can move your cables out of the way and they arent causing a problem then dont bother getting them. Unless your cables builds a wall inside your case, they wont improve airflow that much. They are pretty much for looks.

Therehave been issues with data corruption, but almost everysingle hd comes with preventative measures that correct the problem.

I have 2 ide rounded cables, and one rounded floppy and I have yet to see any problems.

I personally like the way they look and they give alot of extra space.

i myself just folded my cables and put them in split loom. definately cheaper than buying premade rounded cables..

wasnt planning on doing anything like that till i read this article at OCModShop :)

Hmmm. I just got some. Before my cables are like a wall blocking my two fans blowing in. Before my case temp is around 27-29c. Now I get around 20-22c. Check my rig.

I successfully used the rounded cables in a very small mATX cased system I was building, ............. they really helped improve the airflow and component accessibility inside the enclosure.

A normal sized ATX pc case usually has enough room to route the flat ribbon cables in such a way as to not excessively restrict airflow or access to components and you can avoid the extra cost $$$ and questionable quality of the rounded cables .................

Check out the case wire and cable routing of the "Voodoo" brand custom-built pc's featured in MAXIUMPC magazine if you get a chance ................ they really do an excellent job of routing and use some stick-on cable clips that make the job super sanitary!
Lots of good ideas ........

I did not notice any difference in my case temps. I use a digital doc 5 to monitor my temps. The cables did make the inside of my case neater and better looking. It is easier to get around in.

i am like dakata24...i just made my own.it's not hard and cheap. whether or not it is worth it is up to you..the idfference in case temps will probably be small but if you go into your case a lot it makes it much easier to work in and overall much cleaner.

For looks u can go to Pep Boys and go to the "ricer" section and get split looms in a variety of colors and sizes for a few bucks.

My Quantum Fireball LM plus did not like them at all. It would lock up trying to access anything- if it finished posting.

If you have 6 IDE devices (and presumably a floppy drive), I'd seriously consider getting (or making) rounded cables. Your case would at least look neater, and I suspect that with that many cables your temperatures would drop slightly. I haven't had any problems with data corruption. Make sure you get the longest cable possible; I have trouble with mine reaching far enough (they just barely go far enough), but that's just because I was stupid and didn't measure before I bought my cables.

I would definitely suggest buying them, or making them, either way.

I have had no problems with data corruption, though, at the moment I only have my CDRW and DVD drive hooked up to them, and my floppy. Still waiting on my other one to come in.
