Are rising gas prices affecting you?

Hasn't affected me so far. Will regret the decision to go with V6 over the 4 cyl when I am paying $80 per fill up though.

Think I'm on the plus side. I drive the same but the wife said she has quit driving to the next town(20mi) for shopping trips to the mall.

I swear traffic is much worse, more cars on the road, as prices go higher. I don't get it. Seems no matter the price, there are 2 things people always afford. #1 gas, #2 cell phone. Employed or not, somehow everyone always finds the money for these 2 items. So no matter how high gas goes or how much your cell phone bill may be, people over all find the cash. If high gas prices actually resulted in a noticeable drop in road traffic, I'd be all for high gas, the higher the better. But it doesn't work that way. The higher the gas, the more traffic on the roads. Weird...

I am lucky since my commute to work is only 2.5 miles each way, and I have friends with cars that we alternate driving with (and get money to fill up.) So gas doesn't affect me too much.

I know people who are slowing down working in hopes that they'll get fired (to get unemployment) because their commute eats all their money.

Yup, it's adding up big time here. Worst part is my wife only works 2 miles away from my job, but due to different schedules and the time daycare closes we can't carpool and cut down on gas usage.

Not to mention rising oil prices are also killing me with home heating oil prices

Yes. Both in terms of gas costs and in terms of inflation spreading throughout the economy (though gas prices are only partly to blame for that).

No. My wife and I both take the bus to work. We only fill up our tank about once a month, which runs us about $50.

That extra $15-$20 a tank over the course of 6 or 7 fillups a month for my household certainly impacts both my driving habits and spending. I don't make as many trips into town now, and when I do, I don't buy as much because there's less expendible income than was there prior to gas going up.

Multiply that out across the entire nation over the course of a year and the you are talking billions of dollars that would have went to various purchases and services that is now being burnt up in a car.

Doesn't affect us too bad. I'm a consultant and a lot of my mileage gets reimbursed. Both of our cars get 30mpg or more.

The wife and I both drive about 45-miles a day, each. High gas prices won't put us in the poor house but will take money out of other business' hands. We'll make do like we did a few years ago.

Gas is $4.19-$4.49 here. So it costs a lot to fill up my Jeep, and my Eclipse requires premium. It use about three gallons a day going to and from work. So yea, it costs more, but it is what it is... I can afford it, I just would rather it was cheaper, obviously.

My wife's company pays for her gas, she just puts it on her corporate card. Quite a nice perk these days!

Soon enough, it won't be a problem. My work is 3 miles away. Once my bicycle is fixed (and it is finally warm in the mornings), I will probably ride that to work. I have a moped, but I don't need people giving me funny looks in the morning watching a really tall guy ride around on a little scooter.

$4.09 here. I guess I kinda notice, but it's not like I'm crying over it. Between my wife and I we fill up our two cars, three times per month so 10 cents here and there really don't make much difference.

But... I'm looking to buy an SUV so these gas prices should help to drive down demand and get me better pricing there.

last fill up was 60 no biggie, ~9 mile RT commute to work. once it gets warm i will be biking some of the time too, which will make the refills even less frequent. short commute is so nice

It cost me ~$120 to fill up my DD. It gets passed on to my clients in hidden charges.

I'm sure it's the same with everything else. You'll just pay little more for most things.

Yes. I have cut down on my driving by a lot. Work from home more often now and don't go out as much. I have been keeping track of my gas mileage since 2005 and along with that I record the gas prices. Here are the prices for central NJ from 2005 to now

highest price I ever saw was $4.10 on June 2008. Current prices aren't there yet, but getting there fast! Although, I havent been to the gas station since 4/21 so it could very well be past 4.10 by now.
