Are retailers desperate this year?

I've heard on the news that sales in general have been down this Christmas, compared to previous years. When I went to the mall this morning, it was relatively empty. Even when I hit Best Buy this afternoon, it wasn't too bad. Though when I walked through the mall, I kept getting jumped on by sales people, asking me if I had bought all my Christmas gifts yet. I was passing through the makeup department in Belks to reach the mall proper, and some woman got aggressive, telling me that she has makeup recommendations if I want to buy makeup for an older lady. Um, no. I let my mom buy her own bloody makeup.

Really, it's annoying enough with the usual hawking in the mall when the vendors in the middle of the aisle beg you to buy stuff, or the guys on streetcorners who beg for change; I don't need salespeople insanely begging me to buy stuff on Christmas Eve when I'm passing through and minding my own business.

Ah, don't hate on the salespeople. They're just trying to make money. You should have taken them up on their offer of makeup though because those bags under your eyes need some assistance. 😉

j/k

Merry Christmas!

I have some pants I'd like retailored. They are so tight, they push things up and make my crotch area look like a division sign - ball-dick-ball.

That is NOT the visual I needed before bed... :|

yeah I went to the mall over here (Mall of Georgia) and it seemed kinda empty then what I have seen in other holidays

I can't speak for tailors and retailors, but for retailers, early indications do indeed suggest that it might be a grim season.

this is quite possibly the most appropriate response I've seen all night.

Stores have been packed everywhere I've gone. If anything, it seems more crowded than ever this year! But maybe those are just window shoppers, what with so many people getting screwed with the mortgage fiasco.

I was actually disgusted to hear how K-Mart was open for 64 hours straight, starting Saturday at 6am and ending today at 10pm. That's gotta be such a morale killer for the employees.

I love working graveyard shift personally

It seems they are desperate. I was my local Macy's on Sunday and it seemed about half their inventory was at least 50% off. I bought four ties that had a sticker price of $45 for $11.75 each.

Maybe they thought you were an easy target...walking through walls and all.

I love it. Not hating on the retail folks but I think most retail products are REALLY overpriced these days.
If I can walk into Best Buy the week after Xmas and get stuff for 75% off I am one happy camper.

While shopping at Sears I took a lap through the Electronics section and was aksed if I needed help from about 15 different Salespeople looking for a commision. I felt bad for them as it seemed like they were pretty desperate and probably were being pushed by management to be so pushy.

I'm not really sure what that has to do with anything but thanks for the mental picture of your male camel toe.

OP edited his post

It was pretty busy the past couple weeks. The malls have been packed, as have been walmart, bbuy, CC, and hell, even the dollar tree.

Don't think it looks so grim this year for retailers here in corpus.

How could anyone be desperate in a city named The Body of Christ?
