It just means that their talking points are so far from reality that their minds can't bridge the gap to see the absurdity.

Thread: Are Republican's really this stupid?

Over the last 40 years that bar has been set pretty low ....

The Republicans are for "fiscally responsibility" just as much as the Democrats look out for "the little guy" and the poor.

Tell me, how stupid is the fact that Democrats elected a man with 5 seconds of a political track record on the premise of "hope and change"? What's he done so far?

WTH are you all talking about?

The RNC doesn't spend any taxpayer money.

Are you trying to say that they're fiscally irresponsible because the meet in HI? It's not like HI is a state with voters or anything. Where are they supposed to go during winter? FL, if so what's the difference?

Other than donors to the RNC, I don't see why anyone would care or how it's anybody's business.

This criticism makes no sense. It's their own money. It just looks bad

following fern's points, hi is a state, gets a lot of its money from tourism, why shouldn't the rnc spend some money there?

now bo bashing vegas and then flying around for lost causes like dem political campaigns is something that may deserve a little derision...

Republicans are incredibly stupid...and the only ones who can give them a good run for their money are the Democrats.

Understand where you are coming from, but the point isn't whose money is being spent. It's the outward idiocy of delivering a message of fiscal responsibility and monetary discipline from the Atlantis resort in Waikiki.

Apparently just a little smarter than the Republicans that got a failed businessman elected twice

I don't see how it's idiocy unless they went into debt. Nor do I see it's any more expensive than any other location. (It's supposed to be cheaper actually due to downturn in tourism)

I don't know how many people are at the meeting, but for meetings/conventions of any size the only place with sufficient facilities are places like that which cater to such events. Basically you're stuck with such resorts/convention centers in Miami, Orlando, Las Vegas etc during Winter time. I wouldn't even suggest Atlanta during Winter.

I mean FFS it's not like they can go to the Days Inn off the interstate.

Shrug, whatever.

This is the problem in a nutshell, most of the republican leadership is not smart enough to understand how dumb they are.

And during the eight years of GWB, the GOP conservatives got everything they had been bellyaching for during the past 50 years, as they cheerfully dismantled 100 years of common sense reforms dating back to even before Teddy Roosevelt. And when those new GOP policies totally crashed our economy, the very dumb GOP leadership still can't understand that many of their core assumption need some modification.

At least honest conservatives like William F. Buckley understood and was taking steps to spread the alarm, shortly before he died. And now Mr. Republican is Rush Limbaugh and or Dick Cheney. And Mrs. Republican seems to be Sarah Palin.

What does location of the RNC have to do with anything? I live in a place where a lot of conventions take place due to the weather and tourist industry being geared toward supporting of such conventions. Hawaii isn't any more expensive than Pittsburgh, Cleveland or some other cold-as-hell city would be. If you knew anything about conventions you'd understand that you must put them in an appealing location or attendance will suffer.

It's idiocy from a PR standpoint. Justified or not, people are always going to judge things on their face (see the whole Al Gore electric bill thing).

You honestly don't think Hawaii is more expensive than Pittsburgh or Cleveland? Have you ever been to the US? Have you seen Pittsburgh or Cleveland? Price of food, land, etc...

Plane ticket would be more expensive, sure, but everything else...debatable. Hotels give cut rates for conventions, catering does too, etc. Again, I live in a town that is specifically geared for conventions and I can assure you that if in fact you were to go somewhere else it wouldn't be any cheaper and attendance would suffer as well.

Stop thinking like a tourist and think like a conventioneer.

Yes, Hawaii is accessible by only the most expensive forms of transportation.. so naturally, everything there that's not made there will be quite a bit more expensive than it would be in the rest of the states.

But back to the original point, yes, Republicans are quite stupid. So are Democrats. Long term, I'm betting on the Libertarians.
